N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council met for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on August 3rd at the Jamestown City Hall.

Many agenda items including resolutions to re-affirm pledges to the two banks, authorizing the JSDC to enter a short term lease agreement in the Spiritwood Township, and a resolution to approve the Architectural Services Jail Study budget were approved at the beginning of the meeting.

The first resolution of the night included approving and authorizing the issuance of improvement warrants and exchanging them for $1,975,000 Refunding Improvement Bonds to Raymond James of Florida with a net interest rate of 1.56%. The resolution was approved.

A public hearing regarding a request from the James River Valley Library System for a “Certification of Significant Community Support” focused on receiving funds for a new Book Mobile. Roger Parsons with the Library System stated that the city’s support was needed to receive funds from the USDA.

Parsons was asked by the city council if the system was looking for funds from the city, which was not the case. The James River Valley Library System was only seeking approval from the city in order to receive the grant money. The council unanimously approved the motion.

Another item on the agenda included a request for $5,000 in order to provide water, sewer and restroom fixtures in the proposed bus depot in the 100 block on 2nd Avenue Southeast. Councilman Charlie Kourajian stated that the space had been reviewed by a Jefferson Bus Lines representative and had been approved by them.

The city council voted to approve the motion.

Several residents came before the council to express their concerns with the updated plan requirements to Eventide in Jamestown. Brian Berg of Zerr Berg Architects discussed the updated plan that would first focus on building the assisted living facility in the Southwest corner.

After numerous issues were heard from concerned residents in the area, the council decided to table the decision pending final plans being brought before the council.

One final item that was discussed in detail was the proposed routing of a roadway and utilities connecting the Jamestown Regional Medical Center roadway to the Menard’s roadway. Although the plans were not being approved, the council discussed the potential of the connectivity of the road. Mayor Katie Andersen explained why that road was being discussed.

No decision was needed for the item.
