CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Valley City students will have another option if their hot lunch account drops below a negative balance.

Food Service Director Katie Hoban said the alternate meal will be a peanut butter sandwich, apple and milk. But those students who suffer from a peanut allergy will receive a cheese sandwich.

Hoban said parents will be contacted via of email, letter and phone call before the alternate meal policy is implemented on any student in the district.

Under the policy approved by the school board, if a student meal account balance reaches negative $30, parents have four options, make a full payment, set up a payment plan, send a sack lunch or send cash to pay for that day’s meal.

Hoban said no student will ever be denied a meal.
