CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) A 40 year proposal to drain a portion of Rose Slough into the Sheyenne River is closer to reality after the Barnes County Commission approved of moving forward with a plan by the Barnes and Griggs Counties Water Resource District Boards.

Barnes County Water Resource District board member Dale Jorrison said culverts would be used to drain water in the spring or fall under the joint assessment district agreement.

The estimated cost of the Silver Creek project is about $750,000. The cost share would be a 60/40 split with Barnes County picking up the lion share.

Jorrison said a planning meeting is set for September 23rd at 11am in Cooperstown at the Griggs County Water Resource District board meeting room.
