Lisebet Lovaas was born in Norway on April 9, 1925 to Ole J. Lovaas and Ingeborg (Hoiland) Lovaas.  She immigrated with her family to the United States when she was 2 years old.  The family first farmed in Kansas and soon moved to North Dakota where they continued to live and farm in Skandia and Green Townships south of Valley City.

Lisebet first attended the Skandia one-room elementary school where she quickly learned to speak English since they were not allowed to speak Norwegian in school.  She then attended high school at Green Consolidated School.

She married Harold W. Lockwood on Dec. 13, 1942.  They made their living farming in Barnes County until moving to Kathryn, ND when Harold began working as a rural mail carrier.  They were married for 58 years and had one son and two daughters.  Harold passed away in March of 2000 and Lisebet continued to live in Kathryn until moving to Bridgeview Assisted Living in Valley City.  She moved to the Sheyenne Care Center in December of 2014.

Lisebet enjoyed gardening both flowers and produce.  Many guests at her home enjoyed home-grown raspberries or strawberries on shortcake or ice cream.  She was a wonderful baker, specializing in pies, filled cookies, buns, and Norwegian treats.  She also enjoyed reading and embroidering gifts for family and friends.

She was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Kathryn and an active member of WELCA, serving on the quilting team.  Lisebet was a Farmers Union Youth Leader for many years, chaperoning on many youth award trips.

Lisebet is survived by daughters: Laura (Vernon) Rohde, Anchorage, AK, and Elaine (Leslie) Manstrom, Valley City, ND; a son: Harold (Erin) Lockwood, Soldatna, AK; grandchildren Tracy Parker, AK, Troy (Annette) Rohde, AK, Tara (Paul) Myer, Washington DC, Bethany (Kendall) Harms, ND, Nathan Lockwood, AK, and Kathryn (Dan) Groppoli, MN; great grandchildren Danielle, Arianna, Aleah, Anika, Benjamin, Seth, Owen, and Cecelia; and great step-grandchildren Ben and Jacob.
