(NewsDakota.com)–The Region 3 girls volleyball tournament in Napoleon has completed the first two days of competition and the LaMoure Loboes will face the South Border Mustangs for the title on Thursday night.

     The Loboes opened the tourney with a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-21, 25-11) over the Linton-HMB Lions on Monday. Anna Holen led the Loboes with 18 kills, Kindra Hamlin 8 kills, and Jackie Meiklejohn led the way with 33 assists and 5 aces in the victory. The Lions finished there season with a 19-16 record and were paced by Rachel Umbers 12 kills in the loss. 

Holen would lead the charge for the Loboes in the semifinals as well with a match high 29 kills in a 3-2 thriller over the M-P-B Thunder on Tuesday night. The Loboes finished the night with 60 kills, Hamlin added 10 and Katrina Hoff had 9. The Loboes received a huge effort from the smallest player on the floor in 4’11” Alayna Jordahl with a match high 8 aces and Meiklejohn had a match high 51 assists. The Thunder put up a great fight but came up a bit short, falling to 30-6 overall on the season. Jordan Thomas led the Thunder with 25 kills and Halle Uehran had 17. The Thunder defeated the Oakes Tornadoes 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 25-12, 23-25, 15-8 on Monday night to the semifinals. Thomas led the charge in the victory with a match high 27 kills, Uehran 13, and Megan Moser 11. The Thunder had an outstanding night at the service line hitting 108 of 110 serves for 98 percent. Mariah Wick and Uehran had 3 aces to lead the Thunder. Oakes season finished up at 27-10 overall and they were paced by Shelby Roney’s 13 kills.

South Border started a bit sluggish on the opening day dropping the first set of their 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15)victory against the Ellendale Cardinals.  The Mustangs rebounded quickly in the final 3 sets to earn the victory. Morgan Schnabel’s 24 kills paced the way for the Mustang win. Amy Jacobson finished with 15 kills and had 3 aces. The Mustangs defeated Carrington in the semifinals 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) to reach the championship match with LaMoure on Thursday night. Once again it was Schnabel leading the way with a match high 21 kills and 4 aces to pace the Mustang victory. Jacobson added 8 kills and Courtney Jochim added 31 assists in the win. For the Carrington Cardinals they were led by Kauri Hochhalter’s 14 kills and 3 stuff blocks. Carrington reached the semis with a 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-13) victory over the defending Region 3 champion Napoleon-GS Imperials on Monday night. Hochhalter and Maara Nelson led the Cardinals with 11 kills. Taylor Kutz finished the match with 8 kills and a mtach high 4 aces. Abigail Jarrett led Carrington with 31 assists. Napoleon-GS received 11 kills from Jacey Dewald. The Imperials season finished up at 26-9 overall.

Thursday night will have Carrington (26-8) taking on M-P-B (30-6) for the third place match and about 30 minutes later the championship will have LaMoure (34-2-1) taking on South Border (22-15).
