A. Lorenz, 61, of Fried, ND, passed away early Saturday morning, November 21, 2015 at her home.

Joanne Alice Gengler was born on September 13, 1954, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Peters) Gengler. She graduated from Buchanan High School in 1972 and then attended NDSU for one year. Joanne transferred to NDSCS in Wahpeton and graduated in 1975 as an LPN. She and Donald Lorenz were married on June 20, 1975 and made their home in Fried. She became employed at the North Dakota State Hospital in 1976 and worked there for 38 ½ years. She earned her RN degree in nursing in 1992 from Jamestown College.

She and Don enjoyed the annual Ft. Seward Wagon Train together. Joanne was the head nurse for the wagon train in 1994, and then became a cook in 1996. She loved to bake and cook, especially with her grandchildren, and making jelly. Joanne also loved to garden and had a special affection for her pets and all animals. She will be remembered for her passion for nursing, helping people, and playing piano and guitar.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Donald Lorenz; son, Jeffrey (Kristy) Lorenz and their sons, Aiden and Noah; daughter, Pamela (Kurt) Wittenberg and their daughter, MaKaelyn Lorenz; son, Travis Lorenz; son, Kevin Lorenz; brother, Robert (Sharon) Gengler and their son, John; brother, Alan (Brenda) Gengler and their children, Sarah, Matthew (Joy) and Adam; niece, Heather (Brian) Stein and their son, David Baxter; aunt, Louise (Herb) Voss; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; infant son, Clay; infant grandson, Hunter; and sister, Rosanne.

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, with Father Joe Barrett officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m., to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, and one hour before each service.

Vigil: 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at All Souls Prairie Chapel, Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fried, ND.
