CITY (VCSU) – A trio of Viking cross country runners have been named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the NAIA national office has announced.

Valley City State student-athletes Jenna Coghlan, Alex Askerooth and Misael Herrera all received the honor, which recognizes standout student-athletes who excel in the classroom.

It is the second straight year that Coghlan and Herrera have received the award.

A senior from Valley City, N.D., Coghlan is majoring in health sciences while at VCSU. Herrera, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., is majoring in physical education. Askerooth, a junior from Cayuga, N.D., is majoring in biology education.

In order to be nominated for the NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
