CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City State University returned home and left with two quality wins over Dakota State University in North Star men’s and women’s basketball on Wednesday night. 

Women’s Game – VCSU 82 Dakota State 69

The Vikings used another well balanced attack in their win over the Lady T’s inside the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse. Ten players scored in the game for VCSU and six scored in double figures. 

Sara Schwanke paced the Vikings (12-7 overall, 5-1 NSAA) with 15 points, while Lexi Lennon added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

VCSU shot 54.8 percent (34/62) from the floor and made 7 of 14 from beyond the arc. 

Sharee Galbraith had a game high 19 points for the Lady T’s (12-10 overall, 4-2 NSAA) in the loss. 

VCSU: Schwanke 15, Lennon 14, Williams 13, Huber 11, Dixon 10, Vandal 10, Connor 3, Beaver 2, Chakin 2, Bass 2.

Men’s Game – VCSU 67 Dakota State 58

The Vikings snapped their two game losing streak with a hard fought win over the Trojans in conference play. 

VCSU (17-6 overall, 5-2 NSAA) forced 15 Dakota State turnovers and limited the Trojans to 35 percent shooting from the floor. 

Jayden Ferguson scored a team high 15 points, while Nygel Drury chipped in another 13 points for the Vikings. 

Kyle Kilgore scored 14 of his 19 points in the first half for Dakota State (10-12 overall, 4-3 NSAA).

VCSU: Ferguson 15, Drury 13, Howell 11, Ellenson 10, Booth 8, Galloway 6, Vieira 2, West 2. 

DSU: Kilgore 19, Boomsma 12, Heiser 10, Barse 8, Hofer 5, Meger 2, Folkers 2. 

VCSU hits the road for their next contest on Saturday against Dickinson State University. The women will tip things off at 5 p.m. with men to follow at 7 p.m.
