N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency is accepting applications for housing development assistance in rural communities.

According to the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency, the Housing Incentive Fund will assist communities with 12,500 residents or less with funds to build affordable housing. Executive Director Jolene Kline stated that the fund allows contractors to build and make rent affordable.

The HIF has allocated more than $84 million to projects and assisted in the development of more than 2,500 new units statewide. Kline stated that smaller communities need to look at several areas before applying, such as will the cost to build be accepted by community residents.

Communities looking for funding need to have applications submitted by March 31st. Executive Director of the Stutsman Housing Authority Dave Klein pointed out that they were working on securing some of the funding for projects in Carrington and Valley City.
