TOTTEN, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  The 2016 District 7 Girls Basketball Tournament kicked off Friday at Four Winds High School with three games on the schedule.  Here are the first two games results.

Benson County defeats New Rockford/Sheyenne 59-32

The District 7 runner-ups from a year ago, roll past the Lady Rockets in the first game.  Erin Jorgenson had 14 points, followed by Taylor Bisbee with 12 and Kaylee Lybeck with 12.  NRS was led by Elizabeth Holzwarth with nine and Hannah Haley with nine.  The Lady Rockets attempted 21 trey’s, making just three.  BC was 0-11 from beyond the arc.  NRS falls to 5-15, BC improves to 8-11.  

Harvey/Wells County defeats Dakota Prairie 57-55

The number two seeded Hornets survived a first round scare by beating the number seven seeded Knights of Dakota Prairie by a last second shot.  With seven seconds left in the fourth quarter, HWC had to drive the full length of the court to get a chance at a bucket.  Kari Wolfe would get the ball and drive to the hoop and put up a shot from about 15 feet but would miss it, Kaylyn Frison grabbed the rebound and threw up a shot at the buzzer and it went through for the victory.  HWC is now 11-9, DP drops to 5-14.

No. 1 Warwick received a first round bye and did not play on Friday.  The Lady Warriors will play the first semifinal on Saturday against Benson County about 5:30pm.

The Raven 103.1 FM will cover all Dakota Prairie, Harvey/Wells County and New Rockford/Sheyenne games.  Pregame will start about 3:45pm on Saturday with Dakota Prairie against the loser of Four Winds/Minnewaukan and Lakota/Edmore, then around 6:50pm pregame on the Raven, Harvey/Wells County will face the winner of Four Winds/Minnewaukan and Lakota/Edmore in the second semi-final contest.  New Rockford/Sheyenne will receive a bye on Saturday and will return to the court on Monday at 5:30pm for a Region 4 qualifying game.
