CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Valley City has more than 700 acres in the flood way or in the 100 year flood plain according to Building Inspector Dave Andersen.

He says FEMA flood insurance rates are going up but a national program called Community Rating System spells out the criteria and how the city can earn credits to help lower those flood insurance rates.

Andersen is working on the CRS plan for the city. He says the city commission would have to approve the plan before implementing it.

Andersen told the city commission that flood insurance rates for homeowners are expected to increase this year.
