JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Senator John Hoeven spent his afternoon in Jamestown with residents and members of the National Buffalo Museum to discuss the historical and cultural significance of the bison in the nation.

Senator Hoeven has been focusing efforts on making the bison the national mammal of the United States. The official copy of legislation was presented to the National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown.

Official Portrait“The National Buffalo Museum does a great job of telling the story of the bison and teaching new generations about these majestic creatures,” said Hoeven. “Like the bald eagle, the bison is a symbol of America for its strength, endurance and dignity. They played an important role in our history and reflect the pioneer spirit of America. It only makes sense that the bison serve as our national mammal.”

The National Buffalo Museum houses a heard of around 25 to 30 bison, including rare albino buffalo White Cloud. The National Bison Legacy Act recognizes the significance of the bison, which is the largest land mammal in America. The legislation was unanimously passed by the senate.
