N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The James River Humane Society is a no-kill shelter and is now the home to 7 reservation dogs.

The Humane Society houses animals that are abandoned, mistreated, and given away. Reservation Roundups are held periodically on reservations in states all across the nation and finds dogs that are stray or mistreated. Vice President of the Humane Society Matt Opsahl stated that roundups bring in several animals that then need a place to call home.

Round-Ups rescue thousands of dogs every year. GreaterGood.org reports that in a two week span, the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota turned over roughly 600 dogs.

Opsahl stated that the round-up program has gotten better over the past few years and the shelters in the country will continue to provide foster housing to them until a permanent home is found.
