N.D. (AP) The U.S. Department of Agriculture says North Dakota’s farmers and ranchers performed very little fieldwork last week due to cold and windy conditions.

The USDA’s Agricultural Statistics Service says 5 percent of the spring wheat is planted, mostly in southern areas, as most producers wait for warmer weather to increase soil temperatures.

Winter wheat condition is rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 55 percent good and 2 percent excellent.

One percent of the Durum wheat crop is planted, while spring wheat planted is at 5 percent, barley planted is at 2 percent and oats planted is at 4 percent.

Cattle and calf conditions are rated 1 percent poor, 10 percent fair, 75 percent good and percent 14 excellent. Calving is 50 percent complete.
