N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Foster County has declared a fire emergency and burn ban effective immediately.

A release from Foster County Emergency Manager Jess Earle states that the lack of snow and rain combined with warm temperatures and high winds have caused excessive dry down of fuels. This increases the chance of disastrous wild fires that could potentially overwhelm the local Fire Departments resources and cause inordinate equipment wear and damage.

The Foster County Commissioners declared the Burn Ban and Fire Emergency including all of its incorporated cities with the exception for the City of Carrington. The burn restrictions will be in effect until further notice whenever the Fire Danger Rating is “Extreme” or a Red Flag Warning has been issued.

Individuals who violate the burn ban will be guilty of a Class B Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $1,500 and 30 days in jail.
