Skonnord McInnes, 89, formerly of Marion, ND, passed away on May 2, 2016 in New Richmond, WI. A memorial service will be held at The Deerfield in New Richmond on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens near Valley City, ND on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11 a.m.

Shirley was born to Arthur and Amanda (Eichhorst) Skonnord on March 20, 1927 in Valley City. She graduated from College High, attended Augsburg and NDAC (now NDSU), graduating in 1949 with BS degrees in Home Economics and Science.

She taught in Page, ND where she met Dean McInnes. They were married in June of 1951 and moved to Marion, ND. She taught in Litchville, and then served as bookkeeper for the family business, J.C. Miller Elevator. She is a member of Vision of Faith (Marion Lutheran) Church, where she was organist, directed children’s choirs and was actively involved in WELCA. Shirley was active in her community, was a 4-H leader and had a passion for gardening. She enjoyed the arts, quilting and genealogy. She and Dean spent many winters in AZ, where they danced, played cards and met many new friends. In 2009, they moved to Jamestown, ND and to New Richmond in 2013.

She was preceded in death by son Kim, her parents, and two sisters, Harriet Strom and Rebecca Johnson. Left to mourn are husband Dean; daughters Jill (Tim) Wieland of Woodbury, MN and Shelly McInnes of New Richmond; daughter-in-law Dianne (Don) Bear of Jamestown; grandchildren Matt (Courtney) and Josh (Carolyn) Wieland, and Hannah, Adrian and Alex McInnes; 5 great grandchildren, Callum, George, John, Olivia and Isabella Wieland; and sister Dorothy (Marlo) Petersen of San Antonio, TX.
