(NewsDakota.com) In their young history, the Oakes High School baseball team had never experienced such a one-sided affair; until their home finale Thursday against Central Cass.

The visiting Squirrels improved to 5-3 in Class B Region I after pounding 18 hits and scoring 13 runs on the Tornadoes in a 13-0 five inning assault. Central Cass’ first three batters were especially deadly, accounting for 10 of the runs and 10 of the hits. The visitors batted through their lineup three times.

Oakes (4-6 Class B Region I) had a total of three hits, and struck out seven times. Ethan Zetocha, Michael Kelly and Michael McKenna registered the tallies, with only Zetocha, the first batter of the game for Oakes, making it to third base. McKenna took the loss allowing 13 hits and eight earned runs in three and one-third innings.

The Tornadoes’ next game is Monday May 16 at Hendrickson Field in Enderlin to take on the Falcons of Enderlin/Maple Valley. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com will start at 4:45 p.m., with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
