CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Valley City band director Tom Kjelland was named Teacher of the Year in the Valley City School District during the annual All-Staff Social on May 4th.
Kjelland said there are so many teachers in the district more worthy of this honor than myself but it’s an honor to receive the recognition. He said it’s been great teaching so many wonderful students over the years in Valley City.
There were five retirements this year including Jan Beauchman who taught at Washington Elementary for 43 years, Sandra Goeller for 35 years, Rhonda Knodle for 23 years, Carol Foth for 17 years and Joanne Bear who taught for 16 years.

Above are teachers who worked to get grants to benefit students in the Valley City Public School Districts Education Foundation.
Terri LeGrand got a grant for 24 student responder remotes, Matt Nielson got 2 telescopes for his astronomy classes, Sarah Lerud received 2 new work spaces for the school library, Deb Beilke got 2 drones for her multimedia class and Tara Altringer received 2 Osmo Gaming Systems for her 1st grade class.
