CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Students from the Sheyenne Valley Area Career and Technology Center Chapter of SkillsUSA participated in their state competitions in Bismarck on April 18th.

The SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the State. Contests begin with local competition and continue through the state and national levels. 

Sheyenne Valley Area Career and Technology Center Director Jeff Bopp says the philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating the student’s performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.  Those student who received a Gold or were elected as a State Officer are eligible to attend this year’s national event which will be held in June in Louisville Kentucky.

There were 8 gold and 5 silver medals award to local students.

Commercial Art
·    Madisen Anderson – Gold 1st place for promotional bulletin board (VC)
·    CeCe Hatcher – Silver 2nd place for promotional bulletin board (VC) CeCe is a current State Skills USA Officer and sang the National Anthem at the Opening Ceremony (VC)
·    DJ Elstrom – won the program cover design contest (VC)
·    Amanda Bjork – won the state trading pin design contest (VC)
·    Brandon Miller – won the state tee shirt design contest (VC)

Construction Technology
·    Mark Anderson – Gold 1st place for electrical construction wiring (VC)

Automotive Technology
·    Spencer Piatz  – 10th for Automotive Service (BCN)
·    Jacob Sand – 17th for Automotive Service (VC)

Health Sciences
·    Mickaella Langer – Gold 1st place for medical terminology (VC)
·    Brittney Pueppke – Gold 1st place for Nurse Assistant (MV)

Information Technology
·    Sam Richman – Gold 1st place for prepared speech (MV)
·    John Beeson – Silver 2nd place for prepared speech (VC)

Welding Technology
·    Eric Johnson – 4th place for welding (VC) Eric was also elected as a State Skill USA Officer.
·    Israel Estes – 19th place for welding (BCN)
·    Damon Smith – 31st place for welding (Litchville Marion)
·    Lucas Jury (VC), Noah Kvilvang (VC) and Taylor Bingham (BCN) – Silver 2nd place for welding fabrication team.

Commercial Art Instructor Eric Holland at the Sheyenne Valley Area Career and Technology Center was selected the Outstanding Skills USA Advisor of the Year.
