N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Back in 2004, tens of thousands of White Pelicans disappeared from Chase Lake.

Experts still aren’t sure why. They say it could be a number of reasons, including disease and the lack of some of their usual food. Neil Shook is with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Chase Lake is only one of a handful of nesting sites for White Pelicans in the entire North America continent. Today, it’s estimated that over 30,000 White Pelicans have returned.

Shook stated that it’s quite a site to behold. He also pointed out that it’s a way for a person to go back in time.
