(NewsDakota.com) It’s been quite the academic year for Northern Cass High School.

Last fall, the Jaguar football team won it’s first playoff game, over the winter the boys basketball team made it to the State Class B Tournament for the first time, and now the baseball team is back at state for the first time since 2005, after defeating the #1 seeded Kindred/Richland Vikings 4-2 in eight innings in Game Three of the 2016 Class B Region I Baseball Championship Series Tuesday night.

The #3 seeded Jaguars scored what proved to be the winning run on the first pitch of the top of the eighth; via a solo home run from Brennen Neva; breaking up a 2-2 tie after regulation.

Northern Cass advances to the State Class B Baseball Tournament at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo next week.

In post-season award news; Grady Bresnahan of Central Cass was named the Region I Senior Athlete of The Year. Oakes’ Michael Kelly and Matt Kuipers, along with LaMoure-Litchville/Marion’s Quinn Alo and Enderlin/Maple Valley’s Jorun Hamre and Jesse Johnson were named to the All-Region team, with the Loboes Alex Klever earning an honorable mention.
