N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Regional Airport has received approval for a two-year agreement with SkyWest Airlines to continue service for Jamestown.

The decision came from the Department of Transportation, who made their decision based on support from Jamestown businesses and residents. During the month of April, Airport Manager Samuel Seafeldt and Chair Jim Boyd spent time getting letters of recommendation from the city council, county commission and businesses in the area.

In other airport news, U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced that nearly $7 million in federal Essential Air Service funding was given to to Jamestown and Devils Lake.

The funding will boost service to rural areas and is made possible by the Department of Transportation.

“There is no question our rural economies benefit when residents can rely on affordable, accessible air travel to their areas, that’s why it’s great news Devils Lake and Jamestown will continue to receive federal support that will boost local businesses and tourism for the next two years,” said Heitkamp. “Strong Essential Air Service investments bring more tourism and steady business to both Devils Lake and Jamestown, so our local communities and economies can continue to thrive.”

Since last year, ridership to Jamestown has increased by nearly 40 percent. Devils Lake have had an increase of almost 56 percent and both numbers are climbing.
