ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of New Rockford celebrated the grand re-opening of the newly renovated community pool on Wednesday, May 25th.

The four-year long, $1.8 million project worked to created a new ADA-accessible swimming pool and bathhouse. The old pool was demolished and construction began in 2015. The grand opening was attended by more than 100 students and community members, despite pouring rain and thunder.

In a release from the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation, Executive Director Jessica Dillon states that the opening was a culmination of things including three and a half years of research, fundraising, demolition and construction.

“Sustained efforts by the New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation, New Rockford Park District, pool committee and city officials, the generosity of approximately 400 donors and grantmaking organizations, and the support of the residents of New Rockford brought the over $1.8 million project to its long-awaited completion.” Dillon states in the release.

In a Facebook post, Dillon says the community has done something amazing by completing this four-year long project.

“We as a small community have done something powerful. This isn’t just a fun place to spend your summer days – and it is – it’s proof that we believe in the future of our city, that we value our youth and all the people who live here. It proves that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to, even the impossible.”

The pool includes a water slide, diving board, kiddie splash area, ADA-accessible restrooms and shower facilities, and a zero-entry pool access area. The pool will be open seven days a week.
