ND – (NewsDakota.com) Cass County Electric Cooperative will host a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of the Prairie Sun Community Solar array, the first community solar installation in North Dakota.

The groundbreaking will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 11:30am at the future site of the installation on 63rd Street South, just south of 52nd Avenue South in Fargo.

The project, a partnership with the City of Fargo, will provide participating CCEC members with solar energy credits on monthly electric bills upon its completion.

Recently acquired grant funding from the North Dakota State Energy Program and the U.S. Department of Energy have resulted in a 58 percent reduction in participation costs for Prairie Sun Community Solar.

Currently the output of one full panel costs $700. At current electric rates, participants can expect to see roughly $35 in yearly solar credits. CCEC members interested in participating may currently reserve output from solar panels at kwh.com/solar.
