N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – To increase commercial motor vehicle safety, North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and safety inspectors participated in a nationwide CMV enforcement and education program.

International Roadcheck is sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and was held June 7th through the 9th. International Roadcheck is a 72-hour period when approximately 10,000 CVSA-certified local, state, provincial, territorial, and federal inspectors in jurisdictions across North America perform large truck and bus safety inspections.

While Roadcheck 2016 focused on all compliance issues, special attention was focused on tire safety. Inspectors measured tire tread depth, checked tire pressure, ensured no items were lodged between dual tires, and examined overall tire condition, checking for cuts or bulges in the sidewalls.

NDHP troopers and inspectors completed 330 inspections during this 72-hour period.

The 330 inspections identified 47 vehicles and eight drivers with regulatory violations which required them to be placed out of service because of the seriousness of the violation. Most of the out-of-service violations involved defective brake, tire, or inadequate load securement issues.

A total of 20 tire violations were detected, 50 percent of which met the criteria requiring them to be placed out of service until repairs were made.
