(NewsDakota.com) It seemed for most of the night that the Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team was going to end the week with a disappointing 1-2 mark in Class B Southeast Region play.

Down by two runs in the bottom of the sixth, Oakes lined out into a double play to end the inning after having the bases loaded and one out.

However, in the seventh, Oakes scored two runs via two wild pitches, and then won the game with one strike left and Ethan Zetocha at the plate to win the game 6-5 over Ellendale Post 137 Thursday night at Cummings Field.

With the win, Post 36 ends the week 2-1, and improves to 3-5. Ellendale falls to 1-5. Grayson Roney earned the win, going five innings and striking out two, while Luke Wertz was the hard luck loser on the bump for Ellendale, going all seven innings and striking out 10.

Oakes has the weekend off and will travel to Enderlin on Monday to face the Railcats of Post 221. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 5:45, with first pitch at 6 p.m. from Hendrickson Field.
