N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Finance and Legal Committee discussed Tuesday spending city economic development funds to improve a Spiritwood Township road.

The proposed project comes from the JSDC and includes paving the overlay of the road from I-94 Exit 269 to 1 mile north. Councilman and Chair of the Committee Steve Brubakken stated that the project was originally proposed in 2012, but was turned down due to a high price tag.

Councilman Dan Buchanan stated that he felt a better use of the Economic Development Fund would be the road connecting the JRMC to Jamestown.

Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen pointed out that the problem with deciding how to allocate funding from the development fund for projects has been determining if the road will benefit primary sector job creation.

Andersen also stated that paving the road could be the difference between a business coming or deciding against building in the Energy Park. She says a few businesses are looking and they’ve got Jamestown in their top three areas to locate.

The council unanimously approved recommendation to sped $146,000 in city economic development funds to improve the road.
