N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee met on Thursday to discuss several items including the road to the JRMC and finding a City Engineer.

Shawn Gaddie with AE2S came before the committee to discuss the Stormwater Utility Feasibility Study. He pointed out that his organization was awaiting a decision from the council on whether they wanted to move on to the next phase of the project. Mayor Katie Andersen stated she was in favor of one of the plans presented.

The committee voted unanimously with Charlie Kourajian and Ramone Gumke absent, to continue working with AE2S in developing a contract to engage the firm.

Full conversation followed regarding the construction of 20th Street Southwest from the JRMC to Menards. Currently, Interstate Engineering is in an initial contract with the city to investigate the annexation and all the legalities with building the road on existing properties.

Steve Aldinger with Interstate Engineering stated that they’ve contacted the landowners and both seem to be in favor of the project moving forward.

The plan would also annex the Anne Carlsen Center into the city limits. The committee unanimously recommended to proceed with the design phase for the road construction.

One of the final items discussed was the City Engineer Position, vacated by Reed Schwartzkopf in December 2015. Deputy Auditor Jay Sveum reported that their search brought in only three applicants so far, with only one applicant being interviewed for the position. Sveum said that they didn’t feel the applicant met their requirements.

Sveum mentioned that they felt that the city was doing well with Interstate Engineering and their services in lieu of the vacant City Engineer Position. He pointed out that they would expand their search area.
