N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – With record numbers predicted by AAA North Dakota, the North Dakota Highway Patrol will be doing their part by increasing enforcement over the holiday weekend.

Beginning Friday, troopers will join local law enforcement in a Click It or Ticket Campaign through the end of July. The overtime program is funded by federal grants administered by the NDDOT. Troopers will be focusing on seat belts as well as alcohol-related violations to remove impaired drivers from behind the wheel.

According to the NDHP, 42 people have died in traffic crashes so far this year in North Dakota, compared to 52 this time last year. Half of the deaths were unrestrained victims and 45% died in alcohol-related crashes.

“Every driver has the responsibility to make safe decisions while traveling, which becomes especially important during the busy holiday weekend,” said Colonel Michael Gerhart

Buckle up and obey all the laws. Drive the speed posted and always drive sober. Motorists are encouraged to call 911 to report erratic driving behavior and possible DUI drivers.
