N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Great Plains Food Bank of North Dakota has teamed up with several car dealerships in the state to create a different sort of drive; a food drive.

The Million Meals Drive was created to help fight and end hunger in the state of North Dakota. Ron Walters, Major Gifts Officer with GPFB, stated that the idea to create the first ever Million Meals Drive came out of Fargo.

Walters reports that there is a big need not only in Stutsman County, but the eight counties surrounding.

35 dealers have agreed to participate and so far have collected enough food for 160,000 meals. Don Wilhelm, Inc. of Jamestown is a local dealership participating in the effort. Co-Owner Rod Wilhelm stated that he was surprised with the lack of food for those in the community.

Wilhelm originally set a 2,000 lbs. goal for themselves, but have since surpassed that. Office Manager at Don Wilhelm, Inc. Crystal Diestler states that they are just trying to help the state reach that million meals mark.

Diestler says that earlier this month, they donated 160 meals to Community Action Region 6. She also pointed out that the drive continues through the end of August.

There are several ways you can help. Donate your non-perishable items and hygiene products at Don Wilhelm’s in Jamestown, the Salvation Army, Progress Enterprises and Community Action Region 6. You can call 701-252-2950 or email Crystal at cdiestler@donwilhelm.com.
