N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown Police Officer was assaulted during a traffic stop on Tuesday, July 5th.

According to Sgt. Robert Schlenvogt, an officer stopped a vehicle driven by Eric Anderson of Jamestown after it was observed that he had a cracked windshield and no seat belt. Anderson was also allegedly driving with a suspended license, but disagreed when the officer began to arrest him.

Anderson began to back away from the officer. The argument turned into a struggle with the suspect punching and scratching the officer in the face. Sgt. Schlenvogt says the officer was able to gain control over Anderson before backup could arrive.

Anderson is being held in the Stutsman County Jail and faces several charges including Assault of a Peace Officer, a Class C felony and Driving Under Suspension.
