N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Finance & Legal Committee met during in regular session on Tuesday, July 19th.

During discussion, a request was brought forth from the Jamestown Stutsman Development Corporation in regards to the next phase of the Red River Valley Water Supply project. Duane DeKrey, General Manager of the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District, provided a little background on the project.

The project would pipe water from the Missouri River near Washburn, ND to the Sheyenne River near Harwood. DeKrey stated that there was not current estimate for the project, but reported that it could be upwards of $1 billion.

DeKrey mentioned that their reason for coming before the council was to see how much water Jamestown or the Spiritwood Energy Park would require from the pipeline.

Legislature approved $12.3 million in order for the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District to do studies across the state. DuKrey pointed out that different projects would require a separate amount of water for their operations at the Spiritwood Energy Park.

The request from the JSDC was for $154,000 to be used along with $56,000 from the Stutsman Rural Water District to fund the engineering study.

Mayor Katie Andersen stated that the project would help solve some of the issues of water routing to Spiritwood.

The council unanimously approved to fund their portion of the engineering study with Councilman Ramone Gumke absent.
