N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Grazing Lands Coalition, along with several other organizations, are seeking applicants for the state’s first ever Leopold Conservation Award.

Originally created in Sand County, the award is name after Aldo Leopold who called for an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage. The award is given to a private landowner who exemplifies the spirit of the emerging land ethic or a family dedicated to leaving the land better than how they found it.

Joshua Dukart, Executive Director of the North Dakota Grazing Land Coalition, stated that this award is in its inaugural year for North Dakota.

Currently, they are looking for applications to be submitted. Dukart pointed out that the award is fairly prestigious.

The top three finalists will be selected and the winner announced in November. The winner will receive the Leopold conservation Award crystal and $10,000. Deadline to apply is September 15th.
