N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Owen William Fritts is a scultpor based in Flagstaff, Arizona and will be adding his own piece to the Jamestown community.

The Jamestown Arts Association Board held a world-wide search to find a feature piece to place in the newly built Jamestown Arts Park. Fritts was one of three finalist and when he saw the call to artists, immediately began researching Jamestown.

Fritts says the imagery and videos he saw inspired the sculpture he’s calling “Prairie Grass Ballet”.

“Prairie Grass Ballet” will be constructed over the next several weeks with the hopes of it being finished this October. The 2-ton project will feature the 75-pound blades and the aluminum will allow for different lighting combinations.

Fritts pointed out that the sculpture is being built in Jamestown, but he’s been putting the pieces together and studying the area for a while.

Fritts says he has been sculpting for 3 to 4 years now and out of all the projects he’s done, Jamestown will be his most publicly available pieces. He said he’s enjoyed his time here so far.

Fritts says individuals can always ask him questions about the project and are free to come watch him put it together over the course of the next two months. You can view more of his sculptures from around the world by visiting his website here.
