N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Fire Department celebrated their longest serving volunteer on Tuesday, August 23rd.

Gordon “Gordie” Christianson began serving on the Jamestown Fire Department on August 21st, 1966 after he was encouraged to join by some of his friends. He says it’s been a second home for the past 50 years.

When asked what his most memorable fire he responded to, Gordie referred to the Gladstone hotel Fire in 1968.

Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther has worked with Gordie for 27 years and stated that the department would sincerely miss his experience.

Reuther pointed out that 50 years is the longest time of service for any firefighter with the department.

Members from U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s office were also at the celebration of Gordie’s retirement and dedicated a flag to Christianson that was flown over the capitol in his honor. Gordie plans to relax during retirement and looks forward to no more 3:00 AM calls.
