ND (NEWSDAKOTA.COM)- The Hi-Liners opened their 2016 football campaign with a 38-12 road win against Wahpeton. The Huskies started the opening drive of the game on their 30 yard line and ended it with an 11 yard touchdown run by Charlie Wynn. Valley City struggled to generate offense on their 1st possession and after a fumble on the punt Wahpeton took over on the 50.They brought it down to the 20 when the defense made a stand and forced a turnover on downs to end the quarter.

Three plays into the 2nd quarter Eli Allen found the end zone with a 57 yard run and run in the 2 point conversion to put The Hi-Liners up 8-6. Things began to click for the offense and defense, Nate Rodriguez added a touchdown before halftime to push their lead to 16-6.

In the 2nd half Valley City had 2 more touchdowns from Allen and led by as much as 32-6. Wahpeton didn’t score again until Wynn’s 2nd touchdown with 5:39 left in the game. The Huskies were held to just 40 2nd half yards.

Rodriguez rushed for a game high 194 yards with 2 touchdowns and had 3 catches for 41 yards, he was named The Farmers Union Insurance player of the game. Allen finished the night with 3 touchdowns and 130 yards. Levi Nix completed 3 passes on 8 attempts.
