N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A major celebration for 75 years of community work from the Anne Carlsen Center will be held on Friday, September 23rd.

The Anne Carlsen Center was created in 1941 and was first called the “Crippled Children School”. Assistant Development Director Felicia Sargeant stated that it went by that name for quite some time.

Sargeant pointed out that by today’s standards, the name would be considered politically incorrect, but the name encompassed exactly what they set out to do. She said a name change happened because they wanted to better reflect that they were more than just a school.

Anne Carlsen became principal in 1948 and Sargeant said when they first opened their doors, they served 18 students. Today, they help over 2,000 individuals across the state.

The center will be celebrating their success and 75 years on Friday, September 23rd. There will be a community breakfast, presentation and movie and well as a family movie night held. Interested individuals can register at www.annecarlsen.com/74 or by calling 701-952-5102.
