CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Maple Valley School district voters narrowly defeated a school bond issue in a September 20th special election.

Superintendent Brian Wolf said following the canvassing of all the ballots yesterday voters defeated the measure with 59.76 percent in favor. Under state law, 60 percent or more is needed to pass. Wolf said 493 people voted yes and 332 voted no on the first question, 59.76 percent.

The referendum asked patrons to support a $14.3 million dollar school bond issue that would shut-down two schools in the district and pay for an addition to the existing structure in Tower City to centralize the Maple Valley School District into one building.

Back in April of 2015, voters narrowly defeated a $10.3 million bond issue with 59.60 percent in favor. Again 60 percent is needed to pass.
