ANTHONY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Morton County Sheriff’s Office says 21 people were arrested Wednesday afternoon at two Dakota Access Pipeline construction sites near St. Anthony, southwest of Mandan.

That brings the total arrest number 95 since the pipeline protests started.

In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office says officers saw a number of protesters and horses on private property. The statement says one protestor on horseback charged at an officer, who then raised his weapon. Law enforcement also used armored vehicles and what they described as “less lethal ammunition” that used bean-bag rounds.

Rumors have circulated on social media about law enforcement using an airplane to drop tear gas, or mustard gas, on the protestors. But the sheriff’s department says the plane was a crop duster, spraying a field.
