(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes Police department is down two full-time officers, and the city’s school district is without a School Resource Officer after a pair of resignations last week.

Justin Prochnow and Matt O’Brien submitted their resignations to the department last week, and in a special meeting of the Oakes City Council, the council voted to accept the resignations. Both men have resigned to pursue other career opportunities.

Prochnow was the Oakes Public School’s resource officer for the last couple years. The City’s Chief Marke Roberts says, at the present time, the resource officer position will not be filled, as funding for the position runs out at the end of the calendar year.

Roberts says they will seek to fill a full-time officer position as soon as possible, and in the meantime, will plan to have assistance from other area law enforcement agencies to compensate for the lack of full-time officers within the department.
