N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Tourism Board had over 5,000 in Capital Construction requests to mull over Tuesday.

During the meeting, the board discussed their monthly grant requests. They approved $1,000 for the Holiday Dazzle Parade and Executive Director Searle Swedlund stated that the event is an investment that will communicate changes back to the events original date and help outlying communities learn about the event.

Another approved request was $4,000 for the Jamestown Rural Fire Departments Annual Ice Fishing Derby. They will be using the funds for advertising of the event.

“The tournament draws attention to the region by inviting anglers for a specific event. Jamestown Rural Fire Department found success in focusing some marketing efforts in Aberdeen, SD and continues to build off that success,” Searle pointed out.

The other request came from the Civic Center for the Duel in the Dirt finals. The board approved $8,500 for them. Searle says the new event will build on last year’s efforts and success.

During their fall hearing concerning the capital construction fund, the board sifted through over $125,000 in requests from several area entities.

Dakota Motocross, a new organization, was approved for $4,500 of the roughly $40,000 in the Capital Construction fund. They will be using the funds to construct new buildings at the local track.

Other approved items were $35,000 for the Historic Stutsman County Courthouse, $5,000 for the new sensory garden’s project and $10,000 for the National Buffalo Museum’s video project. The board says other request may reapply at their Spring consideration.

There is now $23,000 left to allocate in March 2017. Click here for the original story on the Capital Construction funds.
