CITY, N.D. – (NewsDakota.com) Andrea Nelson, Administrator for the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation received a donation for 0 for the Hi-Line Prairie Gardens & Orchard from Veronica Miller, Secretary-Treasurer of the Historic Alderman School Association.  Miller said, “our board just thought the Orchard was such a great community project and wanted to support it.”

The site of the Hi-Line Prairie Gardens & Orchard is on the west side of 5th Avenue at 9th Street NE in Valley City, the main route to the landmark Hi-Line Bridge and Lake Ashtabula.   The project is converting approximately 4 acres of unused city property in northwest Valley City into an outdoor recreation and educational area that is friendly to pollinator species.

Fifty fruit and nut trees (apples, pears, plums, cherries, butternut and hazelnut) have already been planted but fund raising is currently in progress to plant the remaining 120 fruiting shrubs (juneberry, honeyberry, bush cherry, chokecherry, etc.), and approximately 15,000 square feet of native flowering plants.

A gazebo, rain garden, water feature, bridge and walking paths are also part of the master plan.  The project is in need of private donations as this is not a tax-supported project.

All contributions will be greatly appreciated. Tax-deductible donations can be sent to the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation, 250 West Main Street, Valley City, ND 58072.  Please write Hi-Line Prairie Gardens and Orchard in the memo line.
