N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The largest winter storm of 2016 struck most of North Dakota Monday evening.

The Bismarck National Weather Service reports that the storm brings with it high winds and very low temperatures. Michael Matthews is a Meteorologist with the weather service.

High winds have caused large drifts and nearly zero visibility on state roads. No travel advisory’s have been issued for a majority of the state. And Matthews says the storm is far from over.

Matthews says the storm also has very cold windchill’s expected to be around 20 to 25 below zero.

Sgt. Tom Herzig with the North Dakota Highway Patrol says most roads in the state are closed to motorists. He says the secondary roads are a little worse off with several accidents being reported.
