N.D. (KFGO) – The state patrol says it made the right decision in closing I-94 across North Dakota.

The freeway was shut down from Fargo to Dickinson since Tuesday evening. Captain Brian Niewind says visibility was very poor.

West of Jamestown, troopers had to rescue more than a dozen people who went around the road closure gates and got stuck near Medina. Other drivers got stuck on state roads in other parts of Stutsman County.

Niewind also reports that several citations are going to be given out to motorists who drove around storm gates to the Interstate.

Each citation costs a motorist $250. Nine citations for going around storm gates were issued in Stutsman County, two in Kidder and 17 in Cass County.
