CROSSE, WI (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball teams both picked up wins Friday night in La Crosse, WI defeating Viterbo University in a North Star doubleheader. The women lead wire-to-wire and won another lopsided contest, 81-45. The men battled to the bitter end and won a tight 74-70 game. 

WBB: #10 Jamestown 81, Viterbo 45

Jamestown scored the first 10 points of the game and were never threatened as they rolled to their 23rd consecutive North Star victory. Jamestown got points from all but one player including 18 from Kyra Dewald. She became the 19th Jimmie to score 1,000 points in the process. 

MBB: Jamestown 74, Viterbo 70

The V-hawks raced out to a 15-point lead before the Jimmies turned the corner and starter their comeback. Just before halftime the Jimmies got a tip-in to pull within ten. “I got after them at halftime,” said coach Danny Neville. “They outplayed us in the first half and thats not acceptable.”

The Jimmies responded to the call by their head coach and flipped the script in the second half scoring 48 points, including 22 from Riley Henderson. He knocked down six shots from beyond the arc. 

With the clock winding down, Viterbo took the lead in the final minute twice. Each time, the Jimmies had an answer. With 15 seconds left and the Jimmies down one, Jake Hagler knocked down a corner three that would be the game winner. 

Both teams are in action on Saturday in Forest City, IA taking on Waldorf. Game times are 3pm and 5pm and can be heard on ESPN Jamestown and NewsDakota.com.
