N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  After a major Blizzard postponed the opening day of the 2016 Stutsman County Invitational Girls Basketball Tourney, teams were able to make it the Buffalo City on Friday for the opening day.  Here are the results:

No. 1 Carrington 63  No. 4 Warwick 30

The Lady Cardinals had three players in double figures including Senior Captain Maara Nelson with 14 points, Haley Hewitt with 11 and Emerson Hoornaert with 10 to help get the victory over the Lady Warriors.  Whisper Gourd had 11 points to lead Warwick.  Carrington shot 45% from the field, 27/60.

No. 2 South Border 44 No. 3 Ellendale 35

Senior Amy Jacobson of the Lady Mustangs had a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds to help secure the win over the Cardinals of Ellendale.  Kennedy Schimke led the way for the Cardinals with 15 points. 

No. 1 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 50 No. 4 Midkota 30

6’2 Junior Halle Uehran had six points, six blocked shots and eight rebounds to help the Thunder move into the first semifinal tomorrow.  Leading the way for the Thunder was Amanda Allen with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.  Joslyn Hoyt led the Mustangs with nine points.  The game featured 14 3-pointers, eight by the Thunder and six by the Mustangs. 

No. 2 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 55  No. 3 Napoleon/Gackle/Streeter 54

6’0 Sophomore Katie Entzi for the Lady Rebels led all scorers with 22 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots to help EKM move into the semifinal round against MPB.  NGS was led by Mckenzie Hefflin with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  The game featured 48 fouls and 62 free throw attempts.

Saturday’s schedule:

9am – Warwick vs. Ellendale

10 min. after – Midkota vs. Napoleon/GS

10 min after – Carrington vs. South Border (semifinal)

10 min. after – MPB vs. EKM (semifinal)

Shortly after the first four games, the placing games will take place.  Starting with the seventh place game, then consolation championship, third place and championship all on Saturday.
