N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A recent blizzard hit the state and left behind mountains of snow and colder temperatures and more snow is expected later tonight.

The Bismarck National Weather Service reports that a system will move in and push eastward, bringing with it more snow. Meteorologist April Cooper states the most of the northern plains will get some snow with Jamestown expected to receive between 1 to 3 inches.

“The good thing with this system is there will be no winds,” Cooper reported. “The snow is expected to begin late Saturday morning and continue through most of the day.”

Cooper also reports that current windchills are dangerous, with some areas dropping to nearly 30 below zero.

“Windchills vary in the state, with 30 below in some areas. Jamestown windchills are expected to be anywhere from 20 to 25 below zero at times,” she stated.

Cooper says if winds were a bit higher, frostbite could set in almost immediately.

“If winds pick up, frostbite could set in around 10 minutes. Without the higher winds, the frigid temperatures could cause frostbit within 30 minutes,” Cooper explained.

The current deep freeze is expected to continue with another arctic blast coming Monday. Stay tuned to your local Ingstad Family Media station for the latest in weather and road reports.
