(NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High basketball teams were sick of having to play on the road and finally got a chance to play at Jerry Meyer Arena and split a non-conference doubleheader against Wahpeton. The boys won their first game of the year with a 54-42 win and the girls lost an overtime thriller 67-66.

SDSU signee Tylee Irwin scored 33 to lead the Huskies, but Jamestown had their own answer with Megan Gaffaney dropping a team-high 27. The two teams battled to a tie in regulation when Gaffaney scored with 20 seconds to tie the game.

In overtime, Jamestown took a 66-60 lead, but the Huskies scored the final seven points to win. Emily Reiten got a look to win the game, but she missed the final shot.

John Horgan’s 20 paced the Jays, but it was his three in the final seconds of half one that gave his team some momentum into halftime. The triple broke a 25-25 tie and Jamestown built a 10-point lead early in the second and never trailed again.

Both teams host Minot this week and then Turtle Mountain on Saturday.
