Gehlhar, 96, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Ypsilanti, ND, died on January 8, 2017 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Ken was born on July 4th, 1920 in Montpelier, ND, the son of Albert and Caroline (Konoski) Gehlhar. He grew up and attended school in Montpelier, graduating from high school in 1938. He was baptized and confirmed at the Montpelier Lutheran Church. He married Bertha Ukestad on June 2nd, 1945, at Ypsilanti Lutheran Church. They moved to California in 1945, and returned to Winfield Township near Ypsilanti in 1947, and began farming. They moved to Ypsilanti in 1980, and later to Jamestown in 1996. Ken moved to the Heritage Center in 2012.

He was on the Winfield Township Board for over 40 years, the Ypsilanti Elevator Board for over 35 years, the Ypsilanti Cemetery Board, the ASCS County Committee, and the Federal Land Bank Board.

Ken loved farming, hunting, and especially his family.

Ken is survived by his two daughters, Candice Dempsey (James) Weight of Jamestown and Janice (Dale) Andrud; two sons, Mark (Joan) Gehlhar and Miles (Trish) Gehlhar all of Ypsilanti; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; his parents; his brother, Norman; and one infant son.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Interment: James Valley Cemetery, Ypsilanti, ND.
