N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County saw more foster children enter their care in 2016 compared to one year ago.

Director of Stutsman County Social Services Em Burkett reports that children in foster care for the county jumped from 2015 to 2016.

Burkett said the numbers were troubling. She reports that they had 7 children that were abandoned by their parents in 2016 compared to 4 in 2015.

Burkett says the children were taken in at different times of the year.

Kids that are usually abandoned are unruly or delinquents, but Burkett says the kids that were abandoned this year were neither. She says that’s the troubling part.
